French police have captured a man associated with killing one individual and harming two others in a blade and sledge assault in focal Paris.
On Saturday night, France’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin told reporters at the scene that the attack took place at Bir Hakeim, near the Eiffel Tower.
He stated that the person who was arrested was a French citizen who had previously been known to intelligence agencies.
He added that the attack resulted in the death of one man, a German tourist who was born in the Philippines, and that two others suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
According to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office on Sunday, one of the wounded was British. According to a representative of the anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office, the other was French.
Darmanin stated that one of the responding officers used a taser to subdue the attacker. He added that the suspect’s life is not in danger.
Darmanin stated that, “after his arrest, he said he could no longer bear to see Muslims dying in both Afghanistan and Palestine.”
Suspect was known to intelligence services
Darmanin told reporters that the suspect was born in France in 1997 and was given a four-year prison sentence in 2016 for planning “violent action.”
The suspect was known to knowledge administrations for having “serious mental problems,” Darmanin added.
The minister claimed that the police had informed him that the assailant had allegedly yelled “Allahu Akbar” during the assault.
The suspect had pledged allegiance to the group in a video posted on X, according to a televised briefing by French anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-François Ricard, and he had been required to receive treatment for psychiatric disorders upon his release from prison in 2020, Ricard stated.
The prosecutor’s office said that three people who were close to the suspect were also taken into custody on Sunday.
French State leader Elisabeth Borne held a bureau meeting on Sunday to survey the country’s ongoing security plans.
French President Emmanuel Macron called the occurrence a dread assault and said France’s enemy of illegal intimidation examiner’s office would research.
“I send every one of my sympathies to the family and friends and family of the German public who passed on tonight,” Macron wrote in a post on X in the early long stretches of Sunday.
He also expressed gratitude to the French emergency services.
“The public enemy of psychological oppression examiner’s office currently will be answerable for revealing insight into this matter so equity should be possible for the sake of the French public,” Macron composed.
The incident left German Chancellor Olaf Scholz “shocked.”
Our thoughts are with the victims’ wounded and their loved ones. Yet again it is clear why we are fearlessly facing scorn and dread,” Scholz composed on X.
